PEANUT 'Virginia Bunch'
Arachis hypogaea
Peanuts are an interesting plant to grow in the home garden - plants are short and bushy and produce edible peanuts underground when the flower stem bends over and buries itself under the soil. As a legume they provide nitrogen back into the soil so can double as a living mulch in between taller crops. Requires long growing season to form peanuts, approx 5 months of frost free weather is needed so may not be suitable for cold regions with a short growing season.
In warmer temperate zones plant early Spring
Subtropical areas sow from early Spring to early Summer
Tropical areas sow in the dry season
