This is a hardy variety producing oblong yellow fruit resembling a banana, hence the name. The plant also has beautiful pink flowers that attract birds and butterflies while the fruits taste similar to regular passionfruit and are perfect for all sorts of deserts and eating fresh. The plant itself is extemely vigorous and is considered a weed in some countries so will either need heavy pruning or a large area to climb on. Best in tropical to warm temperate zones but can survive in cooler areas if planted in a sheltered area.
Sow in Spring and Summer or all year in warm northern areas,
Sow 10mm, seedlings emerge 20-60 days, must have +25 degrees c soil temperature to germinate. Passionfruit tends to have erratic germination and seeds may germinate over a long period of time, ensure you keep them planted and watered for up to several months to allow enough time for all seeds to come up.
This variety requires staking and may grow to be very large.
