Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides)
1 x handful piece (approx 15g)
Perennial
Tillandsia usneoides is known by different names, including Grandfather’s Whiskers, Old Man’s Beard, and Spanish Moss. Its long, intertwined strands consist of thousands of individual plants, which give it a delicate, silver-grey/green foliage. In addition, this species produces small fragrant green flowers that can be draped over items to create beautiful displays. In Brisbane, it typically flowers between October and November, depending on location and growing conditions. This plant thrives when hung up, allowing it to dry out completely between waterings. However, be aware that this species is susceptible to spider mite infestations.
Having no roots, you can simply drape the plant on a tree branch or support like a hanging basket or fence.
