Broccoli 'Italian Spigariello'
Approx. 100 seeds
This is an increasingly popular heirloom cousin of traditional broccoli producing long stems of curled green leaves. The flavour is mild and lacks the bitterness characteristic of most broccoli varieties. Flowers are edible but the plant dosn't produce tight florets. Can be used as a substitute for broccolini.
Sowing time - Summer to autumn - better in cooler climates at 10-20 degrees C. Prefer sunny position, sow 5mm deep, emerge 6-10 days. Harvest as soon as there are enough leaves to withstand picking. Curled leaves are most prevalent as the plant matures, initial younger leaves may appear similar to normal broccoli.
